The Campaign for Morris Brown College

“Building A New Foundation”

The Agenda 2005 - 2008

It has been three years since one of Georgia’s oldest and most enduring higher educational institutions faced the harsh reality that it must do business differently.  The loss of accreditation with The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of College’s and Schools (SACS) gave Morris Brown College the unique opportunity to totally re-engineer itself and create a new brand of higher education services built on its capability and experience. The College is preparing its application to SACS in 2006.

Anchored with a new Board of Trustees, a new strategy and operating model for Morris Brown College grew out of a nine month intensive review of the College’s academic and student development programs, fiscal management and internal operating systems and controls.  Additionally, interviews were conducted with other academic leaders, foundation and corporate executives, elected officials, other civic leaders along with the alumni, the AME Church (the founding entity), the faculty, and students.

Our new plan addresses essential operating elements of governance, strategic issues and challenges, the business case for continued operation as a College, revised vision and mission, new academic programs, economic model for operations, strategic partnerships, fundraising and external relations and an improvement based evaluation mechanism.

To fund the new strategy and operating model (2005 to 2008),  the Board of Trustees approved the Campaign for Morris Brown: “Building A New Foundation.”  The goal is $10 million, and the College seeks support for the following programmatic areas:

  • Student Scholarships

  • Debt Reduction (By down bond debt)

  • General Operating (Unrestricted Support)

In 1881, it only took nine instructors, 107 students, and a faithful congregation of African Americans to open the doors of a new school. Just think what YOU can do to help “BUILD A NEW FOUNDATION” for Morris Brown College to continue educating some of the world’s most brilliant minds.  So many dreams depend on the generosity and concerns of people like YOU who value the importance of a meaningful, fulfilling and quality education.  YOUR support can make the difference.  You can make a difference.
